Glenrothes MSP Tricia Marwick has this week welcomed the launch of a website designed to promote the town’s first ever film festival.
The site contains a host of information about the festival, which is to be known as G::2010 and will take place on Saturday, 9th October at the Rothes Halls, in Hall B.
The festival, which is being sponsored by the Glenrothes Community Cinema Group, the Glenrothes Gazette with funding by Celebrating Fife 2010, will be family friendly with all the films shown having a BBFC 12A or lower classification. This will ensure as many people as possible will get to see the films on display.
The film festival is the latest step in Mrs Marwick’s campaign to bring cinema back to Glenrothes. Mrs Marwick, along with David Nelson, launched the Glenrothes Community Cinema Group last year and has worked tirelessly to make the organisation’s regular big-screen showings at the Rothes Halls a success.
Mrs Marwick said: “I am delighted that the website to promote Glenrothes’ first ever film festival has been launched.
“The new website is very impressive and I would urge all town residents, if possible, to have a look at it and sign up to get free updates about any developments that take place in relation to the film festival.
“The G::2010 is a wonderful idea and great credit must go to the likes of Gavin Howe, Pete Rabjohns and the Glenrothes Gazette who have worked so hard to bring this festival to Glenrothes. The people of our town have been starved of cinema for so long I have no doubt they will support this event and make the film festival a great success.
“When I initially began my campaign to return cinema to Glenrothes, I knew there was an appetite amongst folk who live in the town for this to happen. For our town to have its own film festival only a year after the start of this campaign is fantastic and I am sure cinema in Glenrothes will go from strength to strength.”
n Entries for the Glenrothes Gazette’s short film competition closes on 10 September. Entry forms can also be downloaded from Glenrothes Community Cinema’s website.

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this mail to request if I can be allowed to cover the festival as a soft newspiece project for my college assignment. My name is Farooqi Muskwati, I am a student at Adam Smith College here in Glenroathes, HND Creative Studies TV.
If this permission is granted, I might come with a crew of about 4 or 5 people and we will film some of the activities going on and would interview some of the organisers and members of the audience if posssible, with their permission.
Could you please let me know the starting time of the festival and finishing time.
Your consideration will be highly appreciatted.
Thank you,
Yours sincerely
Farooqi Muskwati.
Hi Farooqi
No problem, we’d be delighted to have you there!
The Glenrothes Film Festival is all about encouraging and inspiring film makers of all ages and backgrounds whether amateurs, students or professionals – so we’d be very grateful to you for making a documentary of the event. It would be a great introduction for the 2011 Festival. (Yes, we’re already planning a bigger, more international event for next year!)
Warm Regards
Pete Rabjohns
