More Support for Glenrothes Film Festival

An actor who has worked with some of the best in the world has offered his support to the Glenrothes Festival.

Robert Harrison has appeared in movies and television with stars like Robbie Coltrane, Gerard Butler, Joseph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas.

The Greenock-born actor backed the event, the first ever, which takes place on October 9th at the Rothes Halls.

Harrison believes the  festival – G::2010 – is great for aspiring actors and actresses.

He said: “Your festival is a really good thing. As a film actor from Scotland I’m in London quite a lot so it’s good that there is something like this in that area for drama. There are a lot of good actors and actresses up there who wouldn’t be picked up unless they are given encouragement and exposure. Festivals like G::2010 gives them this

I was picked up by Ken Loach for “Sweet Sixteen” , and I know another couple of actors who have been picked up through Theatre – it’s all about exposure”.

The actor believes the festival can “grow and grow”.

He said: “It’s a great opportunity for local people to get into film. I have just been to the Edinburgh International Film Festival and that is growing and growing. I was in a film shown there this year called “A Spanking in Paradise”, and there was a great response to it.”

I’m sure the Glenrothes Festival will grow and grow. I believe it can be so big, you have just got to get it off the ground first

Harrison beleives the Short Film Competition is a great idea, urging locals to get involved.

The Festival is a good opportunity for Fife to publicize what it can offer. The Film competition is a great idea as it is amazing the quality that is out there. Digital is taking over and giving more people the opportunity to make film. Local aspiring actors should get involved in this festival. If people can get out there with low-budget and the right idea, it’s amazing what you can do

Opening up a festival like this can make somebody massive, it gives them a platform to build from.”

Everybody that has made it in film had to start at the bottom before building their way up.”

MP Welcomes First Film Festival

Local MP Lindsay Roy has welcomed the inaugural Glenrothes Film Festival to be held on Saturday, October 9th at the Rothes Halls.  He said, “This is exactly the sort of event that we need to promote our sense of community. It is great to see that the organisers have put families first – and youngsters of 12 and over can attend unaccompanied. It is also wonderful to see a competition for budding film-makers.

“I wish all those involved every success and, work permitting, I will do my best to visit at some point during the Festival.”
